For dogs who require behaviour modification

For dogs who require behaviour modification in their own home

Residential Rehabilitation

Our residential rehabilitation service is for dogs who require intensive behaviour modification. Your dog will live with us, while we work on modifying unbalanced behaviours, and re-training your dog to be calm, respectful, trusting, polite, and sociable.

Each dog is assessed on their own merits and behaviour, and a re-training strategy is implemented through a structured approach. Whether it is dog reactivity, human reactivity, counter surfing, resource guarding, anxiety, fear or just training obedience we will re-new your dog’s ability to enjoy life; AND assist you as the owner in re-connecting and enjoying your dog.

This service requires a detailed consultation and assessment, and the cost (should you choose us to train your dog) includes the assessment, the time stayed with us, and a follow up session to “hand the reins” over to the owners. The handover is an important part of a successful completion of residential rehabilitation, as it is the owner-dog relationship that is almost always what needs to be adjusted, and the owner will need the knowledge, practice and consistency to apply this new knowledge. We help with reconnecting dogs to their owners, and allowing owners to have meaningful and natural “conversations” with their dog once again.

COLLECTION AND/OR DROP OFF SERVICE for the above residential rehabilitation will incur an additional charge.

Mentoring and Coaching

Sessions

A home visit is the best way for us to assess your dog where the behaviours occurs - whether this is in the home, or in his/hers local environment and community. Consulting with the owners, and seeing the unbalanced behaviours first hand, gives us the necessary information to come up with an individualised strategy for your dog.

One of the best ways of learning a skill is to practice it. Mentoring provides this avenue for owners to learn from us, and then to practice under guidance and supervision. Teaching you the skills you need to re-train your dog day to day, and work on getting their focus and attention onto you as the owner and primary handler.

These sessions cover a consultation and assessment, provide a practical training strategy going forwards, and a chance to ask any questions you may have to clarify all areas that are covered.

These mentoring visits are approximately 2-3 hours. Support in the form of written or telephone communication is always offered. Follow up sessions are usually required to fine tune the owner’s ability to address the behaviours they are working on - whether it is a behaviour they want to instil in the dog, or a behaviour they would like to see disappear.
